We were thrilled to present a very special graduation performance by cohort 20 who were with us at the Academy for 12 weeks. The evening was a little different to previous graduation performances as instead of performing three separate pieces of dance our company performed one epic and magnificent piece of choreography – Petrouchka.
This piece was created at the beginning of 2018 with a company of dancers made up of recent graduates, Chichester University students and our very own dancers Wesley and Sofia. We had the privilege of performing alongside the Hampshire Youth Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall and again at The Anvil in April.
The young people had the full Academy experience whilst with us and did not only dance but were also introduced to yoga by our brilliant teacher Lorna Chapman as well as developing their fitness through circuit training. We were also very fortunate to be invited to an education day at The Grange and were treated to an inspiring afternoon with dancers from Company Wayne McGregor and Edward Watson. All of the dancers have also achieved their Open College Network qualification in Dance and Practical Performance Skills.
We are thrilled that our two role models, Sofia and Wesley, will both be studying dance at Chichester College from September 2018 and Wesley has also been accepted on to the Laban Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) Scheme. We wish them both well in their future journeys in dance.
We would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers and everyone who was involved in helping us move in to our new home at St John’s House. It was a busy but exciting time for us and we look forward to welcoming many more young people into the Academy.
