The evening was a celebration of the hard work Cohort 19 had put in over the past nine weeks.

During the evening there were three pieces of contemporary dance. The first piece Catching, was learnt by the company in just five days.

The second piece, Re-Run, was made during our collaborative choreography element of the programme. This process enabled the young people to develop their choreographic skills by working alongside our dance artists.

The final piece, With Every Step, was performed at the Academy in February after just three weeks of being with us. We were thrilled to be able to show just how far the young people had come.

The evening was also a celebration of the seven years we had spent at our home at 21 St Paul’s Hill and the 19 cohorts of young people we had welcomed through our doors. We moved into the Academy in the summer of 2011 following our pilot projects in 2009 and 2010.
The first group in the building took part in a 6 week project which included the memorable and moving performance of Sonhos. In January 2012 we began our first 12 week long cohort and since then we have never looked back.

As we look to an exciting new chapter in the life of Wessex Dance Academy in our new home at St.John’s House we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been with us on our journey so far and to all of our supporters who have ensured we have a future. We look forward to welcoming you to our new building very soon.

As this was the first referral I have made, I wasn’t sure what to expect.
I was very happy to witness the change in behaviour. Well done.

Stunning accuracy of movement and focus from all of the dancers, a very professional performance.
